The Fiji Consulate General and Trade Commission to Australia and New Zealand takes this opportunity to thank the Australian community, including the Fijian diaspora and businesses, for their generous response to the Fiji Cyclone and Flood Relief Appeal in New South Wales. Over a short period of time, we were able to collect items such as clothes, bedding, blankets, mattresses, toys, shoes and other essential relief materials for Fijian families affected by wind and water damage to their homes and properties as a result of Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni that passed through Fiji.

The generosity of the Australian community, including the Fijian diaspora and businesses, are a testament to the strong bond of love and friendship shared between our two countries. As a result of the generous contributions that were received, two 40ft containers equivalent to 130 cubic metres of items were shipped to Fiji and will be arriving in Suva on 6 May 2018. The items will be received by the Fiji National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and will be quickly distributed in a fair and transparent manner to families most in need at this challenging time.

On behalf of the Fijian Government and our people back home in Fiji, I also take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to sponsors Gibson Freight Australia Pty Ltd, HiLands Foods Pty Ltd, Chess Moving – Sydney, Skywise Designs, the Mobile Agents, the volunteers who came together at short notice, as well as all religious groups and Non-Governmental Organisations for their significant contributions and timely assistance towards this important initiative. We could not have achieved a successful outcome without your support. We also extend our gratitude to organisations that are supporting similar Appeals in operation in other States such as Victoria and Queensland.
